Anthropic silent on whether it will distribute shares to Americans following Musk SpaceX pledge

Anthropic, a leading artificial intelligence firm, has not clarified whether it plans to distribute shares from its newly announced public benefit fund directly to American citizens. On Sunday, the company revealed its intention to allocate 5% of its shares to establish the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, which aims to support nonprofit initiatives or provide direct assistance to specific groups.

In a post on X, the company stated, "We’re committing a portion of Anthropic’s shares to the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, a new wholly owned entity dedicated entirely to the public benefit. It will start off with 5% of our shares. For every 50% increase in the company’s value over a set baseline, we can contribute up to an extra 2%, subject to our board’s discretion. In total, this means that roughly 20% of Anthropic’s shares are committed to the public good."

Fox News Digital reached out to Anthropic to inquire if any of the shares would be allocated to American children or families, but the company did not respond to multiple inquiries on Monday.

Following Anthropic's announcement, Elon Musk encouraged the company to take a more straightforward approach with its shares. He posted on X, "I recommend giving the shares directly to the public."

Musk also announced his own initiative, pledging to give a share of SpaceX to every child in America next year, although he has not provided details on how this distribution will be carried out. "Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America. This will be the first of many," he wrote in a Monday post.

Former President Donald Trump expressed his gratitude to Musk for this initiative on Monday afternoon. He posted on Truth Social, "A BIG THANK YOU to our legendary friend, Elon Musk, for his incredible generosity in giving SpaceX Stock to millions of American children through TRUMP ACCOUNTS!" Trump added, "This is exactly what was envisioned when we created TRUMP ACCOUNTS—Bringing together the GREAT PRIVATE SECTOR, Elon and so many more, to invest in our children, by far our greatest and most important asset, and give every American Child a piece of the American Dream."
