Baby bath seats sold on Amazon recalled over deadly drowning hazard
Over 2,000 baby bath seats are being recalled due to safety concerns that could lead to serious injury or even death in children. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced last week that approximately 2,140 ONTHEWEI-branded bath seats are included in this recall, highlighting a significant risk of drowning.
The CPSC stated that these bath seats do not meet the required safety standards for infant bath seats, primarily because they are unstable and may tip over during use. This instability creates a heightened risk of drowning, which is particularly alarming for parents and caregivers.
The recalled bath seats were available for purchase on Amazon in April, with prices ranging from $40 to $50. They came in several colors, including gray, pink, blue, and mist green, and feature detachable restraint arms along with suction cups on their underside to help secure them in place.
Each seat bears a label on its back that indicates the model number, MY002, and the manufacturing date, which is January 10, 2026. So far, there have been no reported injuries or fatalities related to these products.
In light of the recall, consumers are strongly advised to cease using the affected bath seats immediately. They should reach out to ONTHEWEI to obtain a full refund. The recall notice provides specific instructions for consumers: they are to mark the front of the bath seat with the word "RECALLED" using a permanent marker, disassemble the seat by removing the backrest and arm restraints, and cut the three suction cups attached to the underside of the seat.
After completing these steps, consumers are required to send a photograph of the destroyed bath seat, clearly showing the marked product, to the company as part of the refund process.
As of now, both ONTHEWEI and Amazon have not provided any comments regarding the recall when approached by FOX Business for clarification.
