(FED) Federal Reserve Issues FOMC Statement - ActionForex
The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) has released its latest statement following a vote in which 10 members were in favor and 2 opposed. The Committee has opted to keep the federal funds rate target range unchanged at between 3.75% and 4%. This decision aligns with the Federal Reserve’s dual mandate of promoting maximum employment and stable prices. In addition, the Committee will continue its strategy of ensuring that there are sufficient reserves within the banking system.
The FOMC noted that economic activity is growing at a vigorous pace. Despite ongoing uncertainties influenced by geopolitical factors, domestic consumer spending has demonstrated resilience. There has been notable growth in productivity as well as strong capital investment. Employment figures have remained stable, with job growth keeping up with the increase in the labor force, resulting in little change in the unemployment rate.
However, inflation continues to be a concern, remaining at elevated levels. The FOMC emphasized that gathering additional information will assist in determining the appropriate policy measures necessary to achieve a timely reduction in inflation toward the Committee’s target of 2%. The Committee reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining price stability.
Voting against the current monetary policy decision were members Lisa D. Cook and Beth M. Hammack, who advocated for an increase in the federal funds rate target range by a quarter percentage point during this meeting.
