Financial Stocks Analyst Roundup: Truist Weighs In On PYPL, FISV, SOFI, AFRM, MA, V

In a recent analysis, Truist Financial has adjusted its price targets for several prominent financial stocks, including PayPal Holdings (PYPL), Fiserv Inc. (FISV), SoFi Technologies (SOFI), Affirm Holdings (AFRM), Mastercard (MA), and Visa (V), as the market anticipates the upcoming third-quarter earnings reports from these companies. The revisions come as part of Truist's overview ahead of the earnings announcements expected over the next week.

The analyst highlighted a complex landscape for the financial sector, noting that while the macroeconomic environment in the United States appears stable, there are ongoing worries about a potential decline in consumer spending in Europe and the negative effects of rising interest rates.

Truist has increased its price target for PayPal, raising it to $58 from $53, while maintaining a 'Hold' rating on the stock. This new target indicates a modest potential upside of approximately 1.7% from PayPal's most recent closing price. Similarly, the firm raised the price target for Affirm to $88 from $85 and kept a 'Buy' rating, suggesting a significant upside of over 25% from its last close.

For Mastercard, Truist has also adjusted its price target upward to $674 from $633, maintaining a 'Buy' rating, which implies an expected increase of around 8% from its latest closing price. Visa's target was raised to $443 from $406, with a 'Buy' rating, indicating an upside potential of 8.6% from its last close.

Conversely, Truist has lowered its price targets for Fiserv and SoFi Technologies. The target for Fiserv has been revised down to $51 from $53, although the 'Hold' rating remains in place. This adjustment still suggests a potential upside of more than 2% from Fiserv's last close. Similarly, the price target for SoFi has been cut to $16 from $19, also retaining a 'Hold' rating, with a revised target indicating an upside of over 9% from its last close.

Among the stocks analyzed, Affirm and SoFi appear to offer the best upside potential based on Truist's latest targets. Retail investor sentiment on Stocktwits reflects a bearish outlook for PayPal, Affirm, and Mastercard at the time of the report, while sentiment for Fiserv, SoFi, and Visa is categorized as neutral.
