Gayla Huber Nominated by Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, Appointed to CFPB Consumer Advisory Board
Gayla Huber has been nominated by the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City to serve on the Consumer Advisory Board of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). Huber, who is the President and Founding Partner of IntegriShield, will represent the Tenth Federal Reserve District on this federal advisory board, which focuses on emerging consumer financial products and practices.
The Consumer Advisory Board was created under Section 1014(a) of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. Its primary role is to provide guidance to the CFPB on consumer financial products and services, as well as to evaluate the potential impact of new and evolving products, practices, and technologies on consumers. Huber's term on the board will last for two years, and the board convenes at least twice a year at the discretion of the Director.
Huber expressed her commitment to the board's mission, stating, “The Board is asked to spot how new products and practices are actually landing on consumers, and that is the question I have been answering with evidence for more than a decade. I have spent my career looking at what is really being said to people online, not what a policy document says should be said. I intend to bring that evidence to the table.”
Her background in consumer protection began in the realm of digital advertising, where she recognized the rapid exploitation of vulnerabilities in online marketplaces, often affecting the most at-risk consumers. Since founding IntegriShield in 2012, Huber has led a compliance platform designed to identify and address deceptive advertising, online scams, and fraudulent websites before they can harm consumers. Under her leadership, IntegriShield has successfully resolved tens of thousands of violations, eliminating misleading claims, impostor sites, and fraudulent offers from the internet.
“Technology did not invent deception, but it gave deception reach and speed that consumers cannot outrun on their own,” Huber remarked. “The answer is not to slow down innovation. It is to make sure someone is looking, consistently, at what consumers are actually being shown.”
According to Section 1014(b) of the Dodd-Frank Act, at least six members of the Consumer Advisory Board are appointed on a rotating basis based on recommendations from the regional Federal Reserve Bank Presidents. This structure aims to ensure that regional perspectives are reflected in the Bureau's work. Candidates for the board must complete a suitability questionnaire, submit a cover letter and resume, and may undergo an interview, background check, and provide information on financial holdings and professional affiliations before the Director makes the final appointment.
In addition to her new role, Huber is active in various organizations. She serves on the board of Responsible Enterprises Against Consumer Harassment (REACH), participates in the LeadGen Committee of the Online Lenders Alliance, acts as a monitor for the Direct Selling Self-Regulatory Council, which is a BBB National Program, and sits on the advisory board of LinkUnite, a women’s organization that focuses on mentoring and creating opportunities for women globally.
It is important to note that Huber serves on the Consumer Advisory Board in her individual capacity and does not represent IntegriShield, REACH, or any other organization in this role. The board's function is purely advisory; its members do not have formal decision-making authority at the Bureau and do not have access to confidential supervisory information. Being selected for the board does not imply an endorsement by the Bureau of any member’s organization, products, or services.
For more information about Huber, her official biography is available on the CFPB's website.
