Glaukos (GKOS) Earnings, Outlook ‘Brighter’; Shares Soar to All-Time High
Glaukos Corp. (NYSE:GKOS), a company specializing in ophthalmic medical technologies and pharmaceuticals, experienced a significant increase in its stock price on Thursday, reaching an unprecedented high due to a combination of strong earnings reports, an optimistic growth forecast, and favorable analyst evaluations.
During the trading session, Glaukos shares peaked at $243.71 before settling at $242.48, representing a remarkable rise of 33.65 percent, making it the top performer in the market for the day.
The surge in stock value was largely fueled by impressive third-quarter earnings, which revealed a net income of $2.018 million, a notable recovery from a net loss of $16.2 million reported during the same quarter the previous year. This turnaround was bolstered by record net sales amounting to $211 million, reflecting a 58 percent increase from $133.5 million in the third quarter of the prior year, driven by strong performances from the iDose TR and Epioxa products. Sales in the U.S. rose by 47 percent, while revenue from corneal health products skyrocketed by 154 percent.
Thomas Burns, Chairman and CEO of Glaukos, expressed confidence in the company's performance, stating, "Our record third quarter results reflect successful global execution across our key global commercial and development priorities, leaving us well positioned to sustain our strong growth momentum driven by two transformational growth drivers in iDose TR and Epioxa."
In light of the strong third-quarter performance, Glaukos adjusted its full-year revenue growth forecast, now anticipating revenues to fall between $775 million and $785 million, an increase from the previous estimate of $680 million to $700 million. Burns added, "We continue to successfully advance our robust pipeline of novel, dropless platform technologies designed to meaningfully advance the standard of care and improve outcomes for patients suffering from chronic eye diseases."
Looking ahead to the next fiscal year, Glaukos expects revenues to exceed $1 billion, taking into account the latest foreign currency exchange trends.
In response to these developments, three investment firms reaffirmed their buy ratings for Glaukos shares and increased their price targets. Among these firms, Needham was the most optimistic, raising its target to $251 from a previous $201, attributing this increase to the company's strong revenue performance driven by Epioxa and an expectation of continued profitability and revenue growth through 2027 and beyond. BTIG also raised its price target from $205 to $234, while Stifel increased its target from $190 to $225.
