Intermountain announces $150M Horowitz gift for Las Vegas children’s hospital project

Intermountain Healthcare has announced a significant $150 million donation from Felicia and Ben Horowitz for the establishment of Nevada's first dedicated children's hospital. The hospital will be named the Intermountain Health Felicia and Ben Horowitz Children’s Hospital, as revealed by the Intermountain Foundation on Friday.

This contribution ranks among the largest ever received by a children's hospital in the United States, according to Intermountain. Groundbreaking for the facility is scheduled to take place next week, with plans for the hospital to open its doors in 2030. The site will be located at the UNLV Harry Reid Research and Technology Park in the southwest region of Las Vegas.

Intermountain has stated that the funding will facilitate the recruitment of pediatric healthcare professionals, the development of specialized medical programs, and the advancement of research initiatives. Additionally, the hospital aims to address various healthcare needs, including behavioral health services and specialized pediatric care.

Felicia Horowitz, president of the Horowitz Family Foundation and co-founder of The Paid in Full Foundation, expressed her sentiments regarding the project, saying, “Every parent wants to know that when their child needs care, the very best people and resources are there for them.” Her husband, Ben Horowitz, is a co-founder and general partner at the venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz.

The new Las Vegas facility is part of a larger initiative by Intermountain to enhance pediatric care across its health system, which includes specialized services at Primary Children’s Hospitals located in Utah, as well as expanded pediatric offerings in Billings, Montana.

This donation is a pivotal element of the Nevada Campaign for Kids, a philanthropic drive aimed at supporting the new children's hospital. Bill Hornbuckle, the CEO of MGM Resorts International, and Wendy Hornbuckle, who co-chair the campaign, stated that the project’s goal is to provide specialized healthcare for children throughout Nevada.

The hospital is anticipated to serve families in Nevada while integrating into Intermountain’s extensive pediatric care network, which includes 34 hospitals and approximately 400 clinics across six western states.
