Las Vegas police say man accused of making terroristic threats on plane
A United Airlines flight heading to New Jersey was forced to return to Harry Reid International Airport on Saturday evening due to a disturbance involving a passenger, according to aviation officials.
The flight in question, United Flight 1681, operated on a Boeing 737 and was carrying 150 passengers along with six crew members. The airline released a statement indicating that the flight returned to Las Vegas to address what they described as a "potential security concern."
Following the incident, the flight was delayed overnight because of crew regulations concerning work hours and ultimately departed for Newark, New Jersey, the following morning.
A spokesperson for Harry Reid International Airport confirmed that the flight made a U-turn shortly after takeoff due to the passenger disturbance onboard.
On Monday, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) identified the individual involved as 25-year-old Dante Milne. The police stated in a press release, “LVMPD officers responded to Harry Reid International Airport regarding a person who made terroristic threats on a flight. Because of this, the airplane turned around and landed safely back in Las Vegas. Officers detained the individual without incident.”
Milne has been charged with making threats related to an act of terrorism and was subsequently booked into the Clark County Detention Center. He was later released on a surety bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
According to data from FlightAware, the flight took off from Harry Reid at 10:37 p.m. on Saturday and had just crossed into Arizona airspace before returning to Las Vegas, landing back at 11:42 p.m. The flight eventually departed again for Newark shortly after 7 a.m. on Sunday.
