What If You Had Put $1,000 Into Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP and Solana 5 Years Ago?
If you had invested $1,000 in Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC), Ethereum (CRYPTO:ETH), XRP (CRYPTO:XRP), or Solana (CRYPTO:SOL) five years ago, your investment would have been made just before a significant market downturn. Bitcoin reached a closing price of $61,340 at the end of October 2021, peaking at $68,770 in November of the same year, right before the market began to decline. As a result, those who invested in these cryptocurrencies did so at a high point.
Over the last three months, all four cryptocurrencies have shown some recovery, with Bitcoin increasing by 25.6% and Solana rising by 37.6%. Despite these recent gains, all four coins remain substantially lower than their values from a year ago.
We analyzed the worth of a $1,000 investment made in each cryptocurrency on October 27, 2021, to assess their current values. Among the four cryptocurrencies, two saw gains while the other two suffered significant losses.
Bitcoin transformed a $1,000 investment into approximately $1,366, reflecting a 36.6% increase over five years. XRP also performed well, rising by 29.5% to a value of about $1,295. In contrast, Ethereum's value decreased by 41.1%, reducing the initial investment to around $589. Solana faced an even steeper decline of 45.1%, leaving it with a value of about $549.
If you had chosen to diversify your investment by allocating $250 to each of the four cryptocurrencies, your total value today would be roughly $950. Although the gains from Bitcoin and XRP helped offset some of the losses from Ethereum and Solana, the overall investment still resulted in a loss over the five-year period.
