770 Expansion Zal Being Completed in Record Speed
On October 25, 2026, significant progress has been reported in the construction of a new beis medrash located behind 770, with teams working diligently to ensure it is ready for the upcoming Kinus Hashluchim. Recently, work intensified during the night, focusing on lowering the ground level to match the floor of the main zal, marking a crucial advancement in the expansion of the 770 complex.
The new beis medrash is set to provide shluchim with a dedicated learning space during the Kinus and will remain accessible year-round, accommodating over 300 bochurim and yungeleit. In the days leading up to the completion, construction crews have been operating around the clock, continuing their efforts until just before Shabbos and immediately resuming after it ended.
On Thursday night, the work escalated as crews undertook the significant task of lowering the ground level, a process that required meticulous coordination among all involved parties. What typically would take months or even years to accomplish is being expedited at an unprecedented speed. Trucks were seen entering the site empty and departing loaded with sand, as workers focused on achieving the desired ground elevation for the new building.
A source involved in the project shared with Anash.org, “This is a major step toward the Rebbe’s vision of expanding 770. Today, we are working toward that vision together with all the relevant mosdos, which have been intimately involved in every step of the process.”
The new structure is being constructed on the historical site of the Kollel building, located at the intersection of Union Street and Kingston Avenue. The Kollel was established by the Rebbe in 1962 (5722) under the auspices of Machne Israel and the Rebbe’s Mazkirus. It originally operated at 1451 and 1453 Union Street until the year 2000 (5760), when it relocated to its current site on Kingston Avenue, with plans for future renovations of the Union Street property.
As the demand for additional learning space around 770 continued to increase over the past two decades, discussions began in 2021 (5781) between Kollel management and the board of Machne Israel, led by Rabbi Yehuda Krinsky. A proposal for a temporary structure was made to address immediate needs, with the understanding that it could be dismantled later as larger plans for the property developed. This project has been in the works for several years, with Kollel Menachem collaborating closely with Machne Israel, Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch, and adjacent property owners.
The climate-controlled beis medrash will not only serve the community during the Kinus but will also provide a year-round learning environment. It will be equipped with seating for over 300 individuals, fostering a vibrant atmosphere for study and community engagement. The initiative is being overseen by the Vaad Habinyan, which operates under the auspices of Machne Israel, Aguch, and Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch.
This ambitious project has come to fruition thanks to the relentless dedication and generous support of a committed group of individuals, who have collaborated with the three organizations of Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch, Machne Israel, and Agudas Chassidei Chabad. Their collective efforts have played a pivotal role in bringing this long-anticipated development closer to its completion.
