These Celebrities Waited Years to Purchase the Dream Homes They Couldn't Stop Thinking About

Falling in love with a property without ever visiting it is a feeling many share, including celebrities. Whether it’s a charming bungalow that has captured one’s heart since childhood or a luxurious condo with an expansive balcony that catches the eye during daily commutes, many individuals have a dream home that occupies their thoughts. While celebrities may have greater means to realize their real estate aspirations, they, too, often find themselves waiting for the right moment to make a purchase.

One notable example is rapper Drake, who has built an impressive real estate portfolio over the years. Among his most famous acquisitions is the YOLO estate, which he had admired long before he owned it. In a 2014 interview with Rolling Stone, Drake recalled, "This house was the desktop image on my computer years before I bought it." He stumbled upon the property while searching for the most extravagant residential pools online. In 2007, while visiting Los Angeles, he sought the home but was unable to locate it. Two years later, the home was finally listed for sale at $27 million by its owner, a restaurant mogul eager to sell. Drake managed to purchase the house for just $7.7 million in 2012, humorously stating, "I stole it from him!" He later sold the estate to Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford in a deal that included another property, fetching a total of $11 million.

Actress Julianne Moore recently showcased her stunning West Village duplex penthouse in a tour with Architectural Digest. Moore revealed that she had been captivated by the unique top-floor apartment in a 1920s building that once served as a hotel. Although she did not specify how long she had admired the property, she expressed her joy at finding it, saying, "We were so lucky to find this apartment. I think it is one of the most beautiful apartments in New York." The two-bedroom unit features beautiful lighting and has become a cherished home for the actress.

Barbara Corcoran, known for her role on "Shark Tank," experienced a 20-year journey to her dream home. In 1992, while working as a messenger, she delivered a package to the owner of a lavish Manhattan residence and was immediately taken by its beauty. "I thought, 'My god, I’ve never seen anything as beautiful in my life,'" she recounted to the New York Times. She asked the owner to keep her in mind if she ever decided to sell. More than two decades later, she received that call. In 2015, Corcoran purchased the property for $10 million, living there until she sold it for $12 million a decade later, stating, "I never thought I would ever leave," although she ultimately moved due to her husband’s difficulty with the home's staircase.

Holly Madison, known for her time on "The Girls Next Door," vividly remembers the moment she first laid eyes on her enchanting Tudor-style home in Hollywoodland. While filming a horseback riding scene for the reality series, she spotted the charming cottages and was drawn to the area. Describing the property as reminiscent of "Rapunzel’s tower or a Snow White Cottage," Madison acquired the home for just under $1.5 million in 2012, four years after leaving the Playboy mansion. She remarked, "My favorite thing about the house is, it’s very woodsy," noting how it feels like an escape into nature despite being in Los Angeles. Madison has even claimed the house is "haunted," a topic she explored in a 2021 episode of "Ghost Adventures." Despite any spooky claims, she has no intention of selling, hoping to keep it for her children.

Barbara Streisand's journey to her dream home in Malibu was detailed in her book, "My Passion for Design." She fell in love with the property as soon as she saw it, waiting 11 years before finally purchasing it in July 2009 for $16.5 million. She moved in just three days later, recalling that the compound was initially just a single house with nothing else around. The renovation process was extensive, but for Streisand, the effort was worthwhile, as she stated, "You have something to really show for it afterward."

These stories highlight how even celebrities experience the longing for a dream home and the patience required to finally make it a reality.
