Victoria's Secret (VSXY) stock trades up, here is why

Shares of Victoria's Secret (NYSE:VSXY), a retailer specializing in intimate apparel and beauty products, experienced a notable increase of 5.1% during the afternoon trading session. This surge followed several analysts' upgrades in their price targets and positive assessments of the company's future prospects. According to StreetInsider, the uptick in stock price can be attributed to a series of optimistic reports released over the past week, particularly in anticipation of the upcoming fashion show and the company's third-quarter earnings report.

Barclays analyst Adrienne Yih maintained an Overweight rating on the stock and raised the price target from $106 to $112. Yih expressed confidence in the company's performance for the quarter, citing strong transaction and web traffic data that reflect positive momentum within the business. Similarly, Morgan Stanley analyst Alex Straton also held an Overweight rating and adjusted the target price upward from $101 to $104. Straton noted that demand heading into this year’s fashion show is stronger compared to previous years, suggesting that the event could enhance consumer spending rather than merely stimulate it.

Needham analyst Tom Nikic initiated coverage of Victoria's Secret with a Buy rating and set a target price of $106. Nikic described the retailer as a momentum stock with significant potential for growth leading into 2027, indicating that the company is at the early stages of a multi-year turnaround focused on improving management and product offerings.

The market's reaction to Victoria's Secret's stock is indicative of its volatility, as the shares have experienced 37 fluctuations of more than 5% over the past year. Today's increase suggests that investors view this latest news as significant, though not enough to fundamentally alter their overall perception of the company. The most substantial stock movement in the past year occurred approximately 11 months ago, when the company reported third-quarter earnings that exceeded Wall Street expectations, resulting in a 12.3% stock increase. During that quarter, Victoria's Secret announced a year-on-year sales growth of 9.2%, reaching $1.47 billion, which surpassed analyst forecasts. The company also reported an adjusted loss per share of $0.27, significantly better than the anticipated loss of $0.59. Additionally, same-store sales, a critical metric for retailers that measures performance at established locations, rose by 8%. Looking forward, the company provided a revenue forecast for the fourth quarter that exceeded expectations, along with a full-year adjusted earnings per share projection of $2.53 at the midpoint, which also surpassed consensus estimates.

Since the start of the year, Victoria's Secret's stock has increased by 79.3%, and as of now, it is trading at $95.68 per share, nearing its 52-week high of $99.97 reached in August 2026. For investors who purchased $1,000 worth of Victoria's Secret shares five years ago, the value of that investment would now be approximately $1,779, reflecting a significant return over time.
