Crypto ETF News: Bitcoin ETFs Lost $643 Million in a Day and Ethereum ETFs Have Bled for 11 Straight Days. How Much of October's Inflows Are Gone?

Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) experienced a significant downturn on October 30, losing $643.2 million in a single day, marking their most substantial one-day loss since late June. Ethereum ETFs similarly faced challenges, enduring losses for the eleventh consecutive day. This raises concerns among investors regarding the sustainability of the gains seen in October and the implications for market sentiment.

According to Farside Investors, the total net assets of U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs fell to $98.14 billion, dipping below $100 billion for the first time this month. This abrupt decline followed a streak of four days of inflows, as no funds recorded incoming investments on that day. Ethereum ETFs were not spared either, suffering an outflow of $155.7 million on the same day, contributing to their ongoing struggles.

The iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (NASDAQ:IBIT), managed by BlackRock, was the primary contributor to the Bitcoin ETF losses, with a staggering $233.7 million exiting on October 30. Other notable losses included the Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (CBOE:FBTC), which saw $201 million leave, and the ARK 21Shares Bitcoin ETF (CBOE:ARKB), which lost $129.5 million. The remaining outflows were attributed to funds managed by Grayscale and Bitwise, totaling $79 million.

When ETFs experience net outflows, it often indicates that investors are selling more shares than they are purchasing. This scenario can compel funds to liquidate assets or return Bitcoin to shareholders, increasing market supply and potentially driving prices downward. Following the outflows, IBIT's share price dropped by 5.1% to $43.36, while Bitcoin's trading price fell to $77,614, reflecting a 7.1% decrease for the month.

The outflow on October 30 surpassed the previous record of $635.5 million on October 22, 2026, making it the worst day for Bitcoin ETFs since late June. Despite a net gain of $111.2 million from October 1 to October 28, the recent outflows have resulted in a net loss of $515 million for the month. Weekly flows were similarly impacted, with a $202.4 million loss for the week ending October 30, a stark contrast to the $304.7 million inflow from the prior week.

Ethereum funds have struggled throughout October, with spot Ethereum ETFs experiencing a total outflow of $1.6 billion. The week concluding on October 30 saw $431.5 million exit the funds, increasing from the previous week's $220.6 million. The iShares Ethereum Trust ETF (NASDAQ:ETHA) was responsible for the largest outflow on October 30, with $76.6 million leaving. Grayscale’s Ethereum funds collectively lost $55.6 million, while another smaller fund saw a withdrawal of $19.5 million.

On that day, shares of ETHA decreased by 4.5% to $50.42, marking a 16.5% decline over the past month. Investors have faced losses not only from the outflows but also from the declining asset prices. The net assets for Ethereum ETFs plummeted from $17.71 billion at the start of October to $13.22 billion, a drop of nearly $4.49 billion due to both outflows and the decline in Ethereum's price, which currently stands at $2,256, down 16% this month and 54.4% from its all-time high.

Meanwhile, the trend of outflows extended to smaller cryptocurrencies as well. Solana (CRYPTO:SOL) ETFs lost $10.8 million on October 30, accumulating a total loss of $143.7 million for the month and leaving them with $1.40 billion in net assets. Conversely, XRP (CRYPTO:XRP) ETFs displayed resilience, with only a $0.5 million loss on October 30 and finishing the week with an increase of $4.3 million. Overall, XRP ETFs recorded a total rise of $18.8 million for October, bringing their net assets to $1.42 billion, surpassing those of Solana ETFs.

In conclusion, the recent outflows from Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs have erased all gains from October, with Bitcoin ETFs transitioning from a $111.2 million gain to a $515 million loss. Ethereum ETFs have remained in the red throughout the month, concluding October with a total outflow of $1.6 billion. The first weekly flow figures for November could provide crucial insights into future market trends, with a total above the $202.4 million lost the previous week indicating a potential recovery.
