Ethereum Price Prediction: What Could ETH Be Worth by 2028?
Ethereum is currently trading at $2,460, reflecting a 3.1% increase in the past 24 hours. Despite this recent uptick, the cryptocurrency has faced significant volatility, dropping 8.8% this month and 9.7% over the last 30 days. This positions Ethereum approximately 50.3% below its all-time high of $4,946, which was achieved on August 24, 2025. Throughout 2023, Ethereum's price has fluctuated considerably, hitting a low of $1,505 in June and a peak of $2,807 in September. Presently, it is trading below both its 20-day average of $2,532 and its 50-day average of $2,550, which are critical indicators used by traders to assess market trends.
The future price of Ethereum by 2028 remains uncertain. One of the key questions is whether Ethereum can reclaim its previous heights or if it will settle into a lower price range. Currently, Ethereum's market capitalization stands at around $301 billion, with approximately 122.1 million ETH in circulation. Unlike some cryptocurrencies, Ethereum does not have a maximum supply cap, allowing for the continuous issuance of new ETH as staking rewards. This flexibility means that any increase in supply before 2028 could necessitate a corresponding rise in market value for Ethereum to maintain a certain price level.
To reach a price of $5,000 by 2028, Ethereum's market cap would need to surpass the valuation implied by its current supply. Historically, Ethereum has encountered challenges in breaking through the $5,000 mark, peaking at $4,867 in November 2021 before plummeting to a low of $897 in June 2022 and finally hitting its record in August 2025. In comparison, Bitcoin is currently trading at $83,495, which reflects a 23.4% decline over the past year, while Ethereum has experienced a sharper drop of 36.7% during the same timeframe.
Recent events may provide a boost to Ethereum's demand. JPMorgan Chase has recently launched JPM Coin on Ethereum's mainnet, its public network where transaction fees are paid in ETH. While this initiative does not guarantee an increase in price, it could stimulate demand for Ethereum by enhancing banking transaction activity. Additionally, a record 43.8 million ETH is currently staked, meaning that holders have committed their ETH to secure the network in exchange for rewards. This staking reduces the supply available for sale since staked coins cannot be sold immediately. However, despite rising staking levels, Ethereum's price has declined in October.
Moreover, Ethereum is preparing for an upgrade known as Glamsterdam, which is scheduled to move to the Hoodi test network on October 26. This upgrade aims to increase the gas limit, thus enabling the network to process a higher volume of transactions. While successful testing could expedite the mainnet launch, it may attract more users without necessarily guaranteeing increased demand for ETH.
On the other hand, Ethereum spot ETFs, which hold ETH and trade like stocks, have faced a downturn recently. After reaching cumulative net inflows of $13.96 billion on September 28, these inflows dropped to $12.81 billion by October 20, reflecting $1.15 billion in net outflows and indicating ongoing market challenges.
Several scenarios could play out for Ethereum's price by 2028, influenced by Bitcoin's performance, ETF flows, staking activity, and on-chain usage. In a bearish scenario, a downturn in Bitcoin's performance coupled with continued ETF outflows could lead Ethereum to revisit its June low. The base scenario would depend on a resurgence of ETF inflows and steady growth in staking. For a bullish outcome, Ethereum would need Bitcoin to reach new highs, increased banking activity like JPM Coin on the blockchain, and ETF inflows to surpass the peak values seen in September.
As for Ethereum's price prediction for 2028, it is expected to range between $1,500 and $5,000, with a target of around $3,500 appearing more realistic than achieving a new high. To set a new record, Ethereum would first have to exceed its 50-day average of $2,550 and surpass its September high of $2,807. Furthermore, ETF inflows would need to climb back above $13.96 billion, and the Glamsterdam upgrade would have to transition smoothly to the mainnet. A monthly close above $2,807 combined with renewed ETF inflows could support the base scenario. Conversely, if these conditions are not met and Ethereum dips below its June low of $1,505, a bearish outcome could become more likely by 2028.
